  1. Fig. 1 shows Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's outstretched arm will not quite touch Uke's outstretched Jo.
  2. In Fig. 2 as Uke steps forward with Jo Tsuki Nage steps forward with a strike towards Uke's face.
  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage grabbing Uke's Jo. Nage's lead hand is near Uke's rear hand with Nage's palm down. Nage's rear hand is near Uke's lead hand with Nage's palm up.

  4. Fig. 4 shows the end of Nage's 1st Irimi Step. Nage's left elbow is down so that it will go under Uke's forearm.
  5. Fig. 5 shows the end of the 2nd Irimi Step. Nage has done the Tornado Twist and Uke is down.

  1. Fig. 6 shows Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's outstretched arm will not quite touch Uke's outstretched Jo.
  2. In Fig. 7 Nage's back foot takes a deep step in and Nage rotates to face the line of attack. Nage's left hand goes towards Uke's face and Uke's arm comes up to defend. Nage's left hand takes the Ikkyo position above Uke's elbow and Nage's right hand grabs the Jo palm down.
  3. Fig. 8 shows Nage's position after adjusting back to the proper throwing position. This is the end of the 1st Tenkan Step.
  4. In Fig. 9 Nage has executed the Tornado Twist and taken the 2nd Tenkan Step. Uke is nearly down.
