Arm Down Change

These examples just show the principle of changing. The actual technique is not critical.

Example 1, Arm Down To Arm Up, Kaiten Nage.

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start position for a Tsuki to get into the Arm Down and make the Kaiten Nage change.
  2. Fig. 2 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan Step with Nage's lead leg and Nage is hitting Uke in the face with a Kuta Punch.
  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage taking the Arm Down grip while in the Tornado Twist.
  4. In Fig. 4 Nage's right leg has just taken the 2nd Tenkan Step and Uke is moving with Nage.

  5. In Fig. 5 Nage's left foot has just taken the Kaiten Nage Step back and is hitting Uke with the Kuta Punch that goes with Kaiten Nage.
  6. Fig. 6 shows Nage shifting to the Nikkyo style grip sans wrist lock for the Arm Up. Nage's right foot has adjusted toward Uke.
  7. Fig. 7 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan Step of the Ikkyo. Nage has the Ikkyo grip.
  8. In Fig. 8 Nage has taken a short 2nd Tenkan Step and paused to demonstrate the Ikkyo position which is a form of Arm Up.

  1. Fig. 9 shows the start position for a Tsuki to get into the Arm Down and make the Sankyo change.
  2. Fig. 10 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan Step with Nage's lead leg and Nage is hitting Uke in the face with a Kuta Punch.
  3. Fig. 11 shows Nage taking the Arm Down grip while in the Tornado Twist.
  4. In Fig. 12 Nage's right leg has just taken the 2nd Tenkan Step and Uke is moving with Nage.

  5. In Fig. 13 Nage's left foot has just taken a step back and Nage's right hand has taken a Sankyo grip on Uke's hand with the palm of Nage's hand on the back of Uke's hand and fingers. Nage is gripping Uke's fingers.
  6. In Fig. 14 Nage's left foot has gathered in as Nage shifts to the Arm Up position.
  7. Fig. 15 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan Step and Nage has changed to the Arm Up position. From here Nage can continue the Tenkan and any appropriate techniques.
