  2. In Fig. 2 Nage's left foot steps to Nage's left and Nage squats as Uke applies the Nikkyo so that Nage can stay ahead of Uke's movement and Nage take the lead.
  3. In Fig. 3 Nage's right foot steps back like a 2nd Tenshim Step and Nage takes a Yankyo grip. Nage could have done many different things here but Yankyo is what happened.

Example 2, Katate Tori Ai Hammi Nikkyo Basic Counter.

Movie of Katate Tori Ai Hammi Nikkyo basic counter.

Fig. 5 Start Fig. 6 Step In Fig. 7 Step Back Fig. 8 Pin

  1. Fig. 5 shows the start with Uke on the right and Nage on the left. Nage has grabbed Uke with Katate Tori Ai Hammi and Uke has taken the Nikkyo grip.
  2. In Fig. 6 Nage squats and steps forward as Uke applies the Nikkyo. By moving with Uke this way Nage can take the lead and counter Uke. In this case Nage used Ikkyo but many techniques would have worked. The thrower is the partner with the best sensitivity.
  3. In Fig. 7 Nage's right foot steps back as Nage brings Uke down with the Tornado Twist.
  4. In Fig. 8 Nage has taken a forward step and squatted to finish the Ikkyo.
