Ikkyo Counter

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke on the right and Nage on the left. They are spaced so that their arms do not quite touch.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Nage striking with a Shomen Uchi strike to Uke's face. Uke's front foot is moving in and Uke is intercepting Nage's strike for the Ikkyo Irimi.
  3. Fig. 3 shows the end of Nage's 1st Tenkan Step. Nage is responding to Uke's Irimi with a Tenkan. Nage's right arm is sweeping to the left in the picture and down to take the lead away from Uke and throw Uke. The person with the better lead gets the throw.
  4. Fig. 4 shows the end of Nage's 2nd Tenkan Step. Uke is falling in response to Nage's step, Tornado Twist and squat.

5. Fig. 5 shows the end of Tornado Twist. Nage has squatted and Uke is down.

  1. Fig. 6 shows the start with Uke on the right and Nage on the left. They are spaced so that their arms do not quite touch.
  2. Fig. 7 shows Nage striking with a Shomen Uchi strike to Uke's face. Uke's back foot is stepping in and Uke is intercepting Nage's strike for the Ikkyo Tenkan.
  3. Fig. 8 shows Nage's right arm sweeping down to take the lead away from Uke and throw Uke. The person with the better lead gets the throw.
  4. In Fig. 9 Nage has taken a forward step in response to Uke's Tenkan Step. Nage has continued the cut down and taken an Ude Garami arm position on Uke.

5. Fig. 10 shows the end of Tornado Twist. Nage has squatted and pinned Uke with the Ude Garami.
