  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Nage's right arm extended so that Uke can grab the wrist for the purpose of this exercise.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Uke grabbing Nage's wrist and pulling Nage in for the stab. Nage is already moving in for the Arm Down.
  3. Fig. 3 shows the end of the 1st Irimi Step. The Arm Down has turned Uke away making it difficult for Uke to stab Nage. The Irimi is frightening and may not be advisable but so far it has worked. Nage's left hand is available to defend against the Tanto if needed.
  4. Fig. 4 shows the end of the 2nd Irimi Step. Uke's Tanto hand is on the ground catching Uke.

  1. Fig. 5 shows the start with Nage's and Uke spaced so that their extended lead arms do not quite touch.
  2. Fig. 6 shows Uke grabbing Nage's wrist. Nage is already moving in and Nage has started the Arm Down.
  3. Fig. 7 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan Step. Nage has adjusted from the initial entry. The Arm Down has turned Uke away making it difficult for Uke to stab Nage. Nage's left hand is available to defend against the Tanto if needed.
  4. Fig. 8 shows the end of the 2nd Tenkan Step and Tornado Twist. Uke's Tanto hand is on the ground catching Uke.
