  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Uke's extended lead hand does not quite touch Nage's extended sword.
  2. In Fig. 2 Nage's Boken is at the top of the Tachi Shomen Uchi and Uke has started moving in.
  3. In Fig. 3 Uke steps in and grasp Nage's wrist with Morote Tori.
  4. In Fig. 4 Nage moves back slightly, pulling Uke forward and at the same time raising the Boken Ikkyo style to move it to the other side of Uke and Nage. Nage's left hand has moved to Uke's elbow for the Ikkyo grip.

5. In Fig. 5 Nage has just taken the 2nd Irimi Step and has Uke well off balance near the end of the Ikkyo. It is time for Nage to change to Yankyo
6. Fig. 6 shows the Yankyo grip and Nage is taking the Boken.

  1. Fig. 7 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Uke's extended lead hand does not quite touch Nage's extended sword.
  2. In Fig. 8 Nage's Boken is at the top of the Tachi Shomen Uchi and Uke has started moving in.
  3. In Fig. 9 Uke steps in and grasp Nage's wrist with Morote Tori.
  4. In Fig. 10 Nage moves back slightly, pulling Uke forward and at the same time raising the Boken Ikkyo style. Nage's left hand has moved to Uke's elbow for the Ikkyo grip. This is the end of the 1st Tenkan Step.

  5. Fig. 11 shows Nage at the end of the 2nd Tenkan Step and the end of the Ikkyo movement.
  6. In Fig. 12 Nage has shifted to the Yankyo grip.
  7. In Fig. 13 Nage has applied the Yankyo and taken the Boken.
