Tachi Shomen Yankyo

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's extended lead hand does not quite touch Uke's extended sword.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Uke with the Boken raised to strike Nage with Tachi Shomen Uchi. Nage's lead foot is starting to enter to Uke's front or live side.
  3. Fig. 3 shows the end of the 1st Irimi Step and Nage is delivering a Kuta Punch. Nage's left hand should be on Nage's chest and starting to grab the handle of the Boken between Uke's hands.
  4. In Fig. 4 Nage is bringing Uke's arm over in an Ikkyo like move.

  5. Fig. 5 shows Nage twisting Uke's arms to break the grip of Uke's left hand on the pommel of the Boken. Uke's instructions are to hang on as tenaciously as possible. Nage must release the grip without harming Uke.
  6. In Fig. 6 Nage has raised Uke's arm and Nage's left hand has grasped Uke's wrist with the Yankyo grip.
  7. Fig. 7 shows Nage applying the Yankyo and taking the Boken.
