Tachi Shomen Cut Up

Example 1, Tachi Shomen Cut Up Irimi.

Movie of Tachi Shomen Cut Up Irimi.

Fig. 1 Start Fig. 2 Boken Raised Fig. 3 Kuta Punch Fig. 4 Change Sides

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's extended lead hand does not quite touch Uke's extended sword.
  2. In Fig. 2 Uke's Boken is at the top of the Tachi Shomen Uchi and Nage has started moving in.
  3. In Fig. 3 Nage takes the 1st Irimi Step and does a Kuta punch to Uke's face at the end of the entry step. Nage's left hand grabs Uke's right hand and the Boken for the Arm Down grip.
  4. In Fig. 4 Nage's right hand has grabbed the handle of the Boken between Uke's hands and Nage is pushing the Boken between Uke and Nage by pushing on Uke's right hand and pulling on the handle of the Boken to make the blade go back towards Uke.

5. Fig. 5 shows just after the 2nd Irimi Step. Nage has minimized the step into Uke's legs to keep Uke form falling at this point. This is the end of the Arm Down and time for Nage to change to Cut Up.
6. In Fig. 6 Nage's right hand slides down the ridge of the blade towards the tip. Nage steps back like Kote Gaeshi and the body movement causes the edge of the blade to come up cutting Uke.
