Tachi Shomen Kote Gaeshi

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's extended lead hand does not quite touch Uke's extended sword.
  2. In Fig. 2 Uke's Boken is at the top of the Tachi Shomen Uchi and Nage has started moving in.
  3. In Fig. 3 Nage's lead foot slides in and Nage does a Kuta punch to Uke's face at the end of the entry step.
  4. In Fig. 4 Nage's right hand has grabbed the handle of the Boken between Uke's hands and Nage's left hand has grabbed Uke's right hand and the Boken for the Arm Down grip. Nage is pushing the Boken between Uke and Nage by pushing on Uke's right hand and pulling on the handle of the Boken to make the blade go back towards Uke.

  5. Fig. 5 shows the end of the 2nd Irimi Step. This is the end of the Arm Down and time for Nage to change to Kote Gaeshi. Nage has taken the Kote Gaeshi grip.
  6. Fig. 6 shows Nage turning Uke over with the Kote Gaeshi.
  7. Fig. 7 shows the end of the Kote Gaeshi and Nage has taken the Boken.

  1. Fig. 8 shows the start with Uke and Nage spaced so that Nage's extended lead hand does not quite touch Uke's extended sword.
  2. In Fig. 9 Uke's Boken is at the top of the Tachi Shomen Uchi and Nage has started moving in.
  3. In Fig. 10 Nage's back foot steps in and Nage does a Kuta punch to Uke's face at the end of the entry step.
  4. In Fig. 11 Nage has taken the Arm Down grip.

  5. Fig. 12 shows the end of the 2nd Tenkan Step. This is the end of the Arm Down and time for Nage to change to Kote Gaeshi. Nage has taken the Kote Gaeshi grip.
  6. Fig. 13 shows Nage applying the Kote Gaeshi.
  7. Fig. 14 shows the end of the Kote Gaeshi and Nage has taken the Boken.
