Jo Tsuki Aiki Ikkyo

This topic covers Jo defenses done Aikikuta style.

Example 1, Tsuki Ikkyo Irimi.

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start in Ai-Hammi. Uke and Nage are far enough apart that their Jos will not quite touch.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Uke thrusting at Nage with Jo Tsuki. Nage steps towards Uke thrusting the Jo into Uke's face with the Aiki Entry Arm. This is not a Jo Tsuki. The Jo is kept close to Nage in a position that shields Nage.
  3. Fig. 3 shows the tip of Nage's Jo coming up under Uke's Jo and catching Uke's arm at the butt of the Jo.

  4. In Fig. 4 Nage takes the 1st Irimi step while the body of Nage's Jo lifts Uke's lead arm.
  5. In Fig. 5 Nage takes the 2nd Tenkan Step. As Nage enters the Tornado Twist Nage's Jo goes up catching Uke's right shoulder. As Nage turns in the Tornado Twist the Jo will move to Uke's elbow naturally.
  6. Fig. 6 shows the end of the Tornado Twist with Uke is falling.

Example 2, Tsuki Ikkyo Tenkan.

  1. Fig. 7 shows the start with Uke and Nage far enough apart that their weapons do not quite reach.
  2. In Fig. 8 Uke thrust with Jo Tsuki and Nage parries while stepping forwards.
  3. Fig. 9 shows Nage thrusting into Uke's face with the butt of the Jo..

  4. Fig. 10 shows a 2nd strike to Uke's face with the tip of the Jo from underneath Uke's Jo.
  5. Fig. 11 shows Nage at the end of the 1st Tenkan step in the middle of the Tornado Twist. The butt of Nage's Jo is at Uke's shoulder.
  6. Fig. 12 shows the end of Nage's 2nd Tenkan step.

Example 3, Tsuki Ikkyo Irimi Style Two.

  1. Fig. 13 shows the start in Ai-Hammi. Uke and Nage are far enough apart that their Jos will not quite touch.
  2. Fig. 14 shows Uke thrusting at Nage with Jo Tsuki. Nage steps towards Uke thrusting the Jo into Uke's face with the Aiki Entry Arm. This is not a Jo Tsuki. The Jo is kept close to Nage in a position that shields Nage.
  3. Fig. 15 shows Nage's Jo parrying Uke's Jo and carrying Uke's Jo over Nage's head.

  4. In Fig. 16 Nage inserts the butt of the Jo between Uke's arms to trap Uke's right arm. A thrust into Uke's face again after steering Uke's Jo to the other side of Nage is a good idea.
  5. In Fig. 17 the tip of Nage's Jo comes down and Nage's left hand moves to the other side of Uke's arm catching Uke's elbow.
  6. Fig. 18 shows Nage throwing Uke with the Ikkyo Irimi.

Example 4, Tsuki Ikkyo Tenkan Style Two.

  1. Fig. 19 shows the start with Uke and Nage far enough apart that their weapons do not quite reach.
  2. In Fig. 20 Uke thrust with Jo Tsuki, Nage steps towards Uke thrusting the Jo into Uke's face with the Aiki Entry Arm. This is not a Jo Tsuki. The Jo is kept close to Nage in a position that shields Nage.
  3. Fig. 21 shows Nage parrying Uke's Jo steering it over Nage's head.
  4. Fig. 22 shows Nage insert the butt of the Jo between Uke's arms to trap Uke's right arm.

  5. In Fig. 23 shows Nage lowers the tip if Nage's Jo and Nage's left hand releases the Jo and grabs on the other side of Uke's right elbow.
  6. Fig. 24 shows Nage throwing Uke with Ikkyo Tenkan.
