Guard Arm Bar

Movie of escape from Guard Arm Bar.

If Nage is strong enough the simplest defense is to pick Uke up into the air and drive Uke down on Uke's head. Uke in this case out weighs Nage by over 90 pounds and Nage cannot lift him so a little more technique is required.

Fig. 1 Start Fig. 2 Cradle Arm Fig. 3 Tuck Arm Fig. 4 Elbow in Throat

  1. Fig. 1 shows Uke moving into position for the Guard Arm Bar on Nage's right arm.
  2. In Fig. 2 Nage's left arm cradles Nage's right arm to prevent the arm bar.
  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage's left arm tucked inside Uke's left leg. This is not essential and it is not always possible but it makes a sharper elbow.
  4. Fig. 4 shows Nage rolling Uke onto Uke's shoulders and Nage's left elbow driving into Uke's throat or face. This weakens Uke's grip and allows Nage's right arm to pull completely out of the arm lock.

    Fig. 5 Roll to Side

  5. In Fig. 5 Nage has rolled Uke onto Uke's side so that Nage can finish Uke.
