Mat Techniques

Ground Finish

We are not trying to be ground fighters. We do not want to do sport. We want to get away and get back to what we know. The most obvious counter is for Uke to roll away from Nage to escape. If Nage stands up this is not hard to do because Uke can take Nage's balance. From the kneeling position it is easy for Nage to rabbit punch Uke in the back of the head if Uke tries to roll away.

Fig. 1 Start Fig. 2 Pin Arm Fig. 3 Strike

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start. This example is a continuation of the escape from Guard Arm Bar.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Nage pinning Uke's top arm down to minimize Uke's movement and expose the side of Uke's face and neck.
  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage using a C strike against the side of Uke's jaw, temple or neck. Nage could also use a shuto or lower forearm strike. After striking Nage can follow up by turning Uke on Uke's stomach for an arm bar to enable tying Uke up.
