Hara Gatame Kokyu Nage

Reference: Hara Gatame

CHOKES ARE DANGEROUS. SEE THE CHOKE WARNING. It is not shown here but when Uke attempts to choke, Nage's chin pulls down to Nage's chest tightening the neck muscles and Nage's shoulders shrug up to Nage's ears. Do not allow Uke to get a good choke as shown here except for training.

Movie of Hara Gatame Kokyu Nage

Fig. 1 Hara Gatame Fig. 2 Roll Back Fig. 3 Flat On Mat

  1. Fig. 1 shows Uke holding Nage in Hara Gatame. This is a choke with an arm bar.
  2. Fig. 2 shows Nage rolling back to take Nage to the ground.
  3. Fig. 3 shows the end of the roll back with Uke and Nage flat on the mat.

Fig. 4 Bridge Fig. 5 Roll Over

  4. Fig. 4 shows Nage bridging up. This relieves the pressure of the choke and prevents Uke from adjusting to a very strong choke. This is the same principle as the Back Attack Walk Around.
  5. In Fig. 5 Nage turns over and can attack or get away.
